Cut It Up #18 MOTHER'S DAY

*For my Scrap Your Story DT project click HERE*

Every two weeks a new diecut challenge.  You simply follow the theme and include a diecut (manual or electronic) somewhere on the project and you're in!  Sounds easy enough right?  Well this week our challenge over at Cut It Up is Mother's Day.  I created a layout all about being a mom to daughter's and how special that relationship is to me having grown up without a mom.  There's lots of hidden journaling tucked behind the photo just on the right side.

This is another 8x8 for my favs from Instagram book I'm working on.

Sisters

Hey guys.....long time no 'see'.  Well for you it's only been 2 weeks since I utilized the autopost feature, but it feels like I haven't been here in a month.  I've had a sweet little girl who got pretty badly hurt at school on the playground (bad concussion and broken nose) which is no fun anytime, especially when you are only in preschool and your mom has been put in charge of not allowing you to so much as bump your head for 3 weeks.  Yeah..no pressure right?!  LOL.  So, I'm sure you can see why that's not conducive to Mommy getting any happy scrappy time.  But that's okay, because I got LOTS of baby girl snuggly time.  ♥

I'm back this week with a layout for Scrap Your Story's 10th challenge...all about FAVORITES!
Scrap your favorite moment, your favorite picture, your favorite holiday, your favorite item(s), in fact this week's challenge would be PERFECT for a list style layout.
Here is my layout with a favorite photo.  It was taken on a super cold snowy day when swimming just wasn't going to happen.  Queue super cute suits, Mommy's jacuzzi tub and tons of bubbles.  This is an 8x8 page for my 'Instagram favorites book' I'm working on.

I had a terrible time getting a decent photo.  I mean...waiting for sunlight is easier said than done when I'm battling 2" of snow on the ground...in MAY!?!?!  UGH!  I know it's no sunny beachside community, but I live in Kansas for goodness sakes.  Normally by May we are scorching.  :(

I'm also sharing this layout with Southern Girls Challenges.  This week they asked for projects with quotes on them.  My super long title is one of my very favorite quotes that I've had written on my inspiration board for months and finally got to use it!  :)

Arbor Day at Cut It Up

This week's challenge at Cut It Up is all about Arbor Day.  Create a project with tree somewhere on it and include a diecut!  My tree is cut from the Cindy Loo cricut cartridge.  :)  It's a little 8x8 layout for my Dad and StepMoms wedding book.  They dated for over a decade before finally getting married a few years ago so I wanted to include some of my fav photos of them together from before the big wedding day.  ♥

Chevrons Just Wanna Have Fun!

I had been eyeballing this tutorial for folded chevrons on my pinterest boards for days and then happened to notice the current challenge at Frosted Designs is...CHEVRONS!!!  It was just the push I needed to jump in and give it a go.  I followed the tutorial basically with one big difference.  I wanted smaller chevrons.  Her tutorial shows a 2" thick chevron and I wanted one that was only 1" so I cut all the numbers in half.  Not only did I start with a 12"x1" strip instead, but after some trouble shooting figured out I also needed to make my marks/snips at alternating 1/2" marks instead of 1".  So keep that in mind if you alter the width of your initial strip, you need to make your alternating marks/cuts smaller/bigger with the same ratio.  :)

The paper line is more of my My Mind's Eye My Girl line (with bits of the Boy Crazy line as well).  I'm trying to make use of every single sheet of that because I just LOVE it!  You'll notice it in the layout I posted just before this one as well as the Thing 1 and Thing 2 layout a few posts before that!  :)  I still have enough for 2-3 more layouts easy!

Click on over to see Julia's fabulous tutorial for chevrons.  It's super easy to follow.  :)

SYS: Animals

I would call week 1 of Scrap Your Story a big success!!!  We had so many great entries and some just blew my mind.  Don't forget to check back tomorrow to see if you were in the top 3, but starting today you can play along with week 2...ANIMALS!!!  That's right, incorporate photos of animals (or people in an animal costume even!!!) or animal themed embellishments.  Add just one critter or a whole menagerie...follow your inner wild child.  ;)

Here is my layout .... an 8x8 of my daughter with my parents dog, Foxy.
I wish I could give you a product list here, but 100% of
this layout including the letters were just scraps saved
from my should I/shouldn't I throw them out yet pile.  :)

So what are you waiting for?!?!  Head on over to Scrap Your Story and play along...don't forget to read the rules in the top link bar.  :)

I'm ALIVE!!!

I bet you were all starting to wonder. ;) My back is definitely improving with this physical therapy and chiropratic treatments, but sitting at the scrappy table for long is still just a little too much. So I haven't gotten much done lately. I did manage a few 8x8 layouts for friends.

For the 'people I love' layouts I decided on a best friends theme. I was really wanting to create something in a pink/purple scheme and best girlie friends fit well I think. The flowers are all prima-style flowers by Recollections and the lettering is the same Cuttlekids set from above. I also stamped the letters, "b-e-s-t" and cut the letter into a rectangle strip. The swirls are a small sizzix die that I cut 2 off and placed under each side of the flower. I used both swiss dots and divine swirls Cuttlebug folders. The word 'friends' is cut from pink sugardust paper.
The last 8x8 I finished is this boy's baseball themed one. Once again the lettering is my Cuttlekids alpha set I can't seem to find the name for. The stamped images (varsity flag, blue oval, baseball) are from a swap I was in ages ago. The baseball paper is from Michael's and i used a coordinating grungy baseball paper for the top layer of the 'M-V-P'. I hope the people who get them can find a home for them in their own 8x8 albums. :)

2 more 8x8 wedding layouts

Here are two more of the 8x8 tropical pages I've completed for dad and step-mom's wedding album. Thanks for looking.

Tropical Wedding album

So far the only supplies I've used are a few inks and circle punches from my stash, the hibiscus quickutz die and on the first 2 layouts I used a few odds and ends from a wedding page kit I had left over. My dad and step-mom had a tropical themed wedding and The Tahiti Beach Stack from DCWV worked beautifully! I am nowhere near done, but had to share my progress so far.

The picture taking of my layouts needs some MAJOR improvement. I think my camera batteries are dying, because I've never been quite this bad at it. :) I hope you enjoy anyway.

8x8's Swap

Okay girls....if you are in my group for the season themed 8x8s on Scrapbook Bingo and don't want the surprise ruined then head back now. There will be a brand new post up tomorrow, I'm sure and I'll try to keep the spoilers out of that. LOL. If you don't mind it not being a surprise, you just can't help yourself, or you think there is a fairly good chance you'll forget by March then scroll down.

These 8x8s are the winter themed set. There is a 4x6 and (2) 3x4 photo mattes. There are 6 total silver snowflake shaped sequins with silver brads in the center. I used sheer white ribbon throughout the layout including through the buckle on the quote box. I printed the lyrics to the song, "Winter Wonderland" on vellum for that. The white cardstock for the background is actually DieCuts With a View Embossed Stripe cardstock and the bottom half with the torn top edge is Paper Pizazz Snowflakes.

For the spring themed set I used Sky by Creative Imaginations. I cut grass printed paper (Spring Greens by Colorbok) in a wavy fashion and laid it over the bottom portion. The two types of flowers are punched out of two sided pink mulberry paper. White brads for the centers and butterfly eyelets fly through the sky. For the stems I used green ribbed ribbon. For the leaves I folded that same ribbon in two loops with a green brad through the center.

Three total shades of blue went into making the summer themed 8x8. Medium blue for the base 8x8. Dark blue matted the photo mattes and the title. I cut Travel Paper-Sand by Sandylion on a hill incline and then used the light paper and white paper in torn strips to create the surf. Misc beach themed stickers from my stash finish off the look
